What is ORCID?

ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) provides researchers with a unique, persistent digital identifier that distinguishes them from other researchers and connects them with their scholarly contributions.

TAMILIYAL encourages all authors, particularly corresponding authors, to obtain and use an ORCID iD when submitting manuscripts.

ORCID iD for Authors

Authors are encouraged to provide their ORCID iD during manuscript submission.

An ORCID iD should be provided in the following format:

https://orcid.org/0000-0000-0000-0000

Authors should ensure that the ORCID iD associated with their submission belongs to the correct individual.

Benefits of ORCID

ORCID helps:

• Distinguish researchers with similar or identical names.
• Connect authors with their publications.
• Improve accuracy of scholarly metadata.
• Support reliable attribution of research contributions.
• Facilitate integration with scholarly publishing and indexing systems.
• Improve discoverability of an author’s research.

ORCID Registration

Researchers who do not yet have an ORCID iD can register for a free identifier through the official ORCID website:

Create an ORCID iD

ORCID registration is free and researchers retain control over their ORCID record.

ORCID and Manuscript Submission

Authors should provide their ORCID iD through the journal’s submission system where an ORCID field is available.

The corresponding author should ensure that:

1. The ORCID iD is entered correctly.
2. It belongs to the named author.
3. The ORCID record is not substituted with another person’s identifier.
4. Author names and institutional affiliations are consistent with the manuscript.

ORCID Display

Where provided and technically supported, authors’ ORCID iDs may be displayed on:

• Article metadata
• Article landing pages
• Published PDF/HTML versions
• Author information
• DOI metadata

ORCID and DOI Metadata

Where technically supported, TAMILIYAL may include authors’ authenticated ORCID iDs in article metadata deposited with its DOI registration and scholarly metadata services.

This helps establish a persistent connection between the author and the published research.

ORCID Is Not an Authorship Requirement

An ORCID iD is strongly encouraged but is not, by itself, a condition for scholarly authorship or acceptance of a manuscript, unless a particular submission system or publication requirement explicitly states otherwise.

Failure to have an ORCID iD should not be interpreted as evidence of authorship quality or research quality.
